ST. GEORGE – Police arrested a 19-year-old St. George man Sunday after he allegedly assaulted three women at a Dixie State University on-campus housing complex in St. George.

Officers responded to a disorderly call at DSU’s Nisson Towers, located at 974 E. 100 South, where three women said they had been assaulted by George Washington Sims during an altercation, according to a probable cause statement written by St. George Police Officer Michael McRae in support of the arrest.

The altercation reportedly ensued when Sims entered the dorm room of one of the women and began yelling at her, the statement said.

“During the verbal altercation, (Sims) picked her up, carried her outside, and then pushed her up against a wall,” McRae said in the statement. “He then grabbed her cell phone from her hand and threw it to the ground, causing it to break.”

A second woman said she came out of her dorm room to see what was going on when she heard the first woman crying, the statement said. She was told what had happened and then reportedly confronted Sims about the incident.

Sims and the second woman got into a verbal altercation, McRae said, which led to Sims punching the woman above her left eye.

To get away from Sims, the second woman went into her room.

The woman Sims assaulted at first, along with a third woman and other residents, tried to keep Sims away from the second woman, the statement said. However, Sims forced his way into the second woman’s room by pushing the people standing in his way. He then allegedly punched the second woman in the left cheekbone area.

Sims was arrested and booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.

He was charged with one second-degree felony for burglary of a dwelling and four class B misdemeanors for assault and criminal mischief.

Judge Jeffrey C. Wilcox, of the 5th District Court, ordered Sims’ bail amount set at $13,596 during his initial court appearance Monday. Sims was found indigent by the court and will be represented by court-appointed attorney Aric Cramer during his next court appearance.

According to court documents, Sims was already facing three class A misdemeanor charges for obstruction of justice and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia from an incident that occurred on Jan. 30.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
